Mahopac Schools welcome two experienced leaders in finance and facilities

The Mahopac Central School District is pleased to welcome John Chow as interim assistant superintendent of finance and operations and Timothy Walsh as director of facilities. Both administrators bring extensive experience in school district operations, supporting Mahopac's ongoing work to plan for the future, manage public resources responsibly and maintain the schools and facilities that serve its students and community.

Walsh returns to Mahopac after serving as director of facilities at Bedford Central School District. He previously held facilities leadership positions in Mahopac and at Haldane Central School District, bringing experience in building operations, staff supervision, capital planning and infrastructure management.

At Bedford, Walsh oversaw facilities operations across more than 650,000 square feet, encompassing educational buildings on five campuses and the district's athletic complex. He supervised 45 facilities personnel and managed a $3.8 million annual operating budget, excluding salaries. His responsibilities have included coordinating a $54 million capital project, a $3.8 million Energy Performance Contract and a $1.9 million SMART Bond project.

Walsh holds a Master of Business Administration from Marist College with a certificate in Executive Leadership, and earned a bachelor's degree in marine engineering and shipyard management from the United States Merchant Marine Academy. He also brings more than 20 years of military service with the U.S. Coast Guard, where he retired in 2023 at the rank of Commander. His assignments included engineering, logistics, readiness planning and operational leadership.

Walsh's background in facilities management, engineering, capital planning and infrastructure investment will support Mahopac's continued efforts to maintain safe, efficient learning environments, care for district buildings and grounds and plan responsibly for future needs.

Chow brings more than 20 years of school business leadership in Westchester County to his role as interim assistant superintendent of finance and operations. Most recently, he served as assistant superintendent for business at Pleasantville Union Free School District, where he managed a $65 million budget. He previously held the same position at Chappaqua Central School District, overseeing a $130 million budget and at Hastings-on-Hudson Union Free School District, where he also served as chief contract negotiator and completed a $10 million capital project.

His background in school finance, budget management and contract negotiations will inform his work with Mahopac's financial and operational planning, helping the district align resources with its priorities while maintaining robust academic, athletic and extracurricular programs for all students throughout the district.

Chow holds an Master of Business Administration in finance from the University of Georgia, along with certificates from Cornell University and New York University. He also holds New York State School District Administrator (SDA) and School Business Administrator (SBA) certifications. Earlier in his career, he worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and served as president of the Lower Hudson Association of Business Officials and two regional insurance consortiums.

“We are pleased to welcome John Chow as our interim assistant superintendent of finance and operations and to welcome back Timothy Walsh as our director of facilities,” Superintendent Vincent DiGrandi said. “John and Tim bring valuable experience in school finance, facilities management and long-term planning. We look forward to working with them as we continue to support our students, maintain our schools and manage district resources responsibly on behalf of the Mahopac community.”
