Elementary runners from Austin Road, Fulmar Road and Lakeview gathered at Lakeview Elementary School for the district’s annual cross-country race on Oct. 14. Second graders through fifth graders spent several weeks preparing for the event, building their endurance and working toward a chance to advance to the next level of competition.
“It’s exciting to see students challenge themselves and recognize how much they can accomplish with practice and persistence,” Lakeview physical education teacher Greg Fitts said. “The race is about more than who crosses the finish line first. It’s an opportunity for students to set a goal, put in the work and feel proud of what they achieve.”
Qualifying runners will advance to the annual Mahopac Elementary School 5K at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park in Yorktown Heights on Oct. 21.
