Mahopac High School students explored a wide range of health and wellness resources during the school’s annual Wellfest, held in the gymnasium last week. More than 25 exhibitors shared information, activities and resources to help students make informed choices about their physical, mental and emotional well-being.
Organized by health coordinator and teacher Valarie Nierman, Wellfest encourages students to explore topics that affect their everyday lives and connect with clubs, organizations and professionals who can offer guidance and support. Students received maps to help them navigate the event, collecting stamps as they visited exhibitors. Those who earned five or more stamps were entered into a drawing for Wellfest T-shirts.
“Wellness looks different for everyone, and Wellfest gives students a chance to explore what it means for them,” Nierman said. “Just as importantly, it helps them see that there are people and organizations in our school and community they can turn to for information, guidance and support.”
