Middle School Moving Up

Mahopac Middle School recently celebrated its eighth grade class during the school’s annual Moving-Up Ceremony, marking an important milestone as students prepare to transition to Mahopac High School.

The ceremony included the processional led by Margaret Fox and Dawn Campbell, the Pledge of Allegiance led by Landon Gardner, Kaijana McLean and Ayun Roh, and a performance of the national anthem by members of the eighth grade chorus. Families, staff and administrators gathered to recognize students for their accomplishments and reflect on their middle school journey.

In his remarks, Principal Tom Cozzocrea reflected on the remarkable growth of the eighth grade class since arriving as sixth graders from Austin Road, Fulmar Road and Lakeview elementary schools. He praised students for building a school community defined by resilience, support for one another and involvement in academics, athletics, the arts and extracurricular activities. As they prepare to begin high school, Cozzocrea encouraged students to remain curious, seek help when they need it and embrace new opportunities with confidence.

Superintendent of Schools Frank Miele congratulated the eighth graders on reaching an important milestone and thanked the families, teachers and staff members whose guidance helped them along the way. He encouraged students to make the most of everything Mahopac High School has to offer by getting involved, working hard and believing in themselves, reminding them that they are well prepared for the exciting opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates by assistant principals Regina Cucinotta and Anthony Muia, followed by a recessional as families celebrated the achievements of the graduating class.

As the eighth graders prepared to move on, students were reminded that they leave Mahopac Middle School with a strong foundation of skills, experiences and support that will carry them into high school and beyond.
