Fulmar Road Moving-Up Ceremony

Fulmar Road Elementary School fifth graders celebrated an important milestone as they participated in the school’s annual Moving-Up Day ceremony, marking the end of their elementary school years and the beginning of an exciting new chapter at Mahopac Middle School.

The ceremony featured the processional of the fifth grade class, the Pledge of Allegiance led by student representatives and a performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by Fulmar Road’s kindergarten students. Throughout the event, students were recognized for their accomplishments and reflected on the friendships, memories and experiences that shaped their time at Fulmar Road.

This year’s ceremony centered on the theme, “Spirit of Determination,” inspired by the school’s One School, One Book selection, “Charlotte’s Web” by E.B. White. In his remarks, Principal Gary Chadwick encouraged students to carry that spirit with them as they begin middle school, reminding them that determination is more than a theme; it is a quality that lives within each of them. Superintendent of Schools Frank Miele also spoke and congratulated students on their accomplishments and encouraged them to embrace new opportunities, get involved and enjoy the adventures that await them in middle school.

The ceremony also included remarks from Carmel Police Officer Vincent Serio, who served as the school’s DARE instructor throughout the year. Serio congratulated students on completing the program and encouraged them to continue making healthy, responsible decisions as they move on to middle school. He recognized this year’s DARE essay winners: Alexander Forgione, Seyd Hoxhaj, Ariana Jamal, Liliana Jerussi, Amelia Loprieno, Skylar Nappa, Michael Sweeney and Caleb Tani.

The recipients of the Mahopac Teachers Association Character Award were also announced. This annual recognition is given to those fifth grade students who consistently demonstrate traits such as kindness, respect, honesty, fairness, dependability, courage and friendliness. This year’s recipients were Mariana Doati, Paul Moschella, Emma Stillwaggon and Julia Vettoretti.

Students concluded the celebration with a performance of “A Fond Fulmar Farewell” before receiving their moving-up certificates and enjoying a slideshow highlighting memories from their six years at Fulmar Road.

As families, teachers and staff celebrated the class, students were reminded that while they may be leaving Fulmar Road, they will always remain part of the Fulmar Road family.
