Lakeview Elementary School fourth graders recently traveled back in time during the school’s annual Colonial Day, a hands-on learning experience that brought their study of Colonial America to life.
Throughout the day, students dressed in colonial attire rotated between classrooms and participated in activities designed to showcase what life was like during colonial times. Students sewed patriotic-themed pillows, planted vegetable and flower beds, played traditional colonial children’s games, made animal ink prints and even dyed their own T-shirts. The interactive stations provided students with a unique opportunity to experience some of the skills and activities that were part of everyday life in early America.
“Colonial Day is always one of the highlights of the year for our fourth graders,” teacher Danielle Romano said. “The students had so much fun participating in the different activities, and it was exciting to watch them make connections between what they learned in the classroom and what life may have been like during colonial times. It truly brings history to life.”
The experience also included a traditional colonial-style lunch featuring turkey, cornbread, mashed potatoes and corn generously provided by the school’s PTO. Parent volunteers assisted throughout the day, helping to make the event a memorable experience for students.

By combining classroom lessons with hands-on activities, Colonial Day gave students a deeper appreciation for the daily lives, work and traditions of early American colonists.
