School spirit and friendly competition were on full display as Mahopac March Madness returned to Mahopac High School on March 6 and 7, drawing a packed gymnasium of students, families, staff and community members.
The annual basketball event featured teams representing Austin Road Elementary School, Fulmar Road Elementary School, Lakeview Elementary School, Mahopac Middle School and Mahopac High School, along with a team from the Town of Carmel and Police Department. Throughout the weekend, spectators cheered on their favorite teachers, school staff and community members as they battled it out on the court in a series of high-energy games.
In addition to the basketball action, the event included raffles and concessions, creating a lively atmosphere filled with school pride and plenty of laughs. The stands were filled with Mahopac families who came out to support the teams and celebrate the return of the popular tradition.
Superintendent Frank Miele thanked the many staff members and volunteers who helped make the weekend such a success.
“We originally started this event years ago as a way to bring together our schools, staff and community for a fun weekend, and it was great to see it back in action,” Miele said. “The energy in the gym was terrific, and it was clear how much everyone enjoyed it.”
Miele recognized the efforts of Lynne Mongon and Maryanne Courtney-LaRue for helping revive Mahopac March Madness after a hiatus, along with Chris Harrigan, Katrina Klammer, Sean Lyons, Shaun McGee, Mike Mongon and Brett Schmitt for their support in organizing the event. Their work helped bring back a tradition that celebrates teamwork, camaraderie and the strong sense of community that defines the Mahopac Central School District.
