Mahopac High School recently hosted its first-ever String-A-Palooza Day, bringing middle school orchestra students together with high school string musicians for a morning of collaboration, learning and performance.
Middle school students visited the high school to participate in team-building activities, instrument sectionals and a full group rehearsal in preparation for the finale of that evening’s concert. The event concluded with students performing for one another, celebrating their shared growth and musical accomplishments.
High school orchestra director Katelyn Tai and middle school orchestra director Kyra Cain, organizers of the event, highlighted the value of the experience.
“String-A-Palooza was a wonderful opportunity for our students to connect, learn from one another and experience the joy of making music together,” Tai said.
“It was inspiring to see the enthusiasm and collaboration across grade levels,” Cain said. “Opportunities like this help our younger musicians feel excited about their future in the orchestra program.”
The inaugural event created meaningful connections between younger and older musicians while strengthening the district’s orchestra community.
