Mahopac High School has been honored as a New York State Public High School Athletic Association School of Distinction for the 2024-2025 school year. The elite honor recognizes schools whose entire roster of varsity teams earned Scholar-Athlete Team status during the school year.
To achieve the School of Distinction designation, a district must apply for the award and have 100% of its varsity teams reach a team GPA of 90 or above. This school year, only 110 schools across the state received the award.
“This is an incredible achievement for our students, coaches and school community,” Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Health Stephen Luciana said. “Being named a School of Distinction reflects our student-athletes’ commitment not only to athletic excellence, but to academic achievement as well. We’re proud of the culture of balance and discipline that makes this possible, and we are deeply grateful for the dedication and support of our teaching staff, whose efforts help our students thrive both in the classroom and on the field.”
The NYSPHSAA’s Scholar-Athlete Team Award program honors teams that excel academically during their sports seasons. The School of Distinction award was introduced to recognize schools that demonstrate a consistent, schoolwide commitment to academic success among athletes, and it represents the highest level of achievement in the program.
Mahopac’s award will be presented at the Section 1 Athletic Director Workshop this fall. The district continues to build a proud legacy of well-rounded student success, driven by a shared commitment to academic excellence, sportsmanship and teamwork.
