Bulldogs Breaking News

With cameras rolling and creativity flowing, students in Lakeview Elementary School’s Bulldogs Breaking News club are learning to tell stories, build confidence and share their voices.

Led by STEAM teacher Jennifer Borst and held weekly as part of Lakeview’s after-school PTO enrichment workshop, the students gain hands-on experience in script writing, video editing, reporting and on-camera performance. While the program was initially designed and planned by Borst, the students quickly took the lead.

The club blends creativity and collaboration with essential 21st-century skills in science, technology, engineering, the arts and math. The students work together to produce fun, engaging and informative content, including weather updates, interviews and special feature segments. Through their participation, they’ve gained confidence and flourished in the club’s supportive and playful environment.

“I’ve seen students make strides and open up since the start of the school year,” Borst said. “Some of our quietest kids come in to the club and they are just a different person.”

Beyond the weekly broadcasts, the students are using their newfound video skills in other areas of school life, creating digital book reviews and even working on a mini-movie they hope to complete by the end of the school year.

“I am incredibly proud and truly amazed by the remarkable work of our Bulldogs Breaking News club,” Principal Elizabeth Blessing said. “These young journalists are not only building important skills for the future but also finding their voices, growing their confidence, and showcasing the heart and spirit of our Lakeview community. Their creativity and collaboration are inspiring, and I can’t wait to see what stories they tell next.”
