Students Recognized By Board of Education receiving awards

The Mahopac Board of Education put the spotlight on talented students and faculty at its December meeting.

The meeting opened with a special performance from the Mahopac High School Jazz Band, which played the lively “Tango for Jam Jam.”

“It’s amazing every time we watch our students play on stage…” said Board of Education President Adam Savino. “It’s such a joy to see students that we’ve known from elementary school to high school.”

Athletic Director Stephen Luciana took the podium to recognize athletes from many of Mahopac’s sports teams. With league titles, all-league, all-section, and all-state honors, Mahopac’s teams were very successful this season.

“I love when we get to recognize our student-athletes for excelling on the field and off the field. And today, we get to do a little of both,” Luciana said. “The state announced its All-Scholar teams and every one of our varsity teams made the list. To be named an All-Scholar team, 75% of team members must have a grade point average of 90 or better.”

The board also recognized the retirement of Maryann Ferraro, a middle school monitor who served the district for 49 years. Ferraro began her career at Austin Road Elementary and later moved to the middle school.
