teachers and staff celebrating Maryann Ferraro on her last day

From her perch in the security booth, she was the first face visitors saw upon entering Mahopac Middle School. Her friendly manner, supportive nature, and knowledge of the school made an impression on countless students during her 49-year career.

We are talking about school monitor Maryann “Queenie” Ferraro, who retired last Wednesday. Ferraro was recognized by the Board of Education at its December meeting for her contributions to the success of Mahopac students. And last Wednesday, she was feted with a surprise sendoff party at the middle school.

"You're a great mother and grandmother, you've been a great friend to all of us," said Mahopac Middle School Principal Tom Cozzocrea. "It's been great to see you every day and it will not be the same without you. You will be missed more than you know. We all love you very much."
